8/31/07 -- FTP Login Information

There is a change in the way that you login to your FTP account, in that you must now provide your full email address as the username.

Additionally, you can now use our new web-based FTP interface, by going here:
http://www.bedford.net/ftp.

4/23/03 -- Coffee Pot

A story on the Coffee Pot building near the fairgrounds recently ran on the AP newswire and the national press. An ABC affiliate in Philadelphia picked up the story and ran the article on their website. They asked for permission to run a bedford.net photo of the restaurant on the site with the story. The photo was taken from our E-Cards feature. The story and the picture can be viewed here.

1/8/03 -- Pop-up ad blocker

Panicware has a pop-up ad blocking program that you can download and use for free for personal use. Click here to download it for windows. It does not block every annoying pop-up ad, but it is a fairly good tool to stop many of them.

8/9/02 -- Do Not Call law passed

Pennsylvania has enacted a 'Do Not Call' telemarketing law. It is now *illegal* for telemarketers to call you if you have signed up for the list. Interestingly, there's an online sign-up form (FREE!) that you can use to put yourself on the list. Here's the link: http://www2.nocallsplease.com/

1/3/02 -- New mail filtering

As you've no doubt noticed, spam and virused email on the internet has gotten worse over time. Our email traffic, per user, has doubled in the last year. Some of that is due to increased use of email, but a lot of it is due to spam. In addition, the load of viruses our mail server handles has increased over the last year from twenty (a busy day) to approximately fifty a day (an average day). In order to help our users deal with this, we've instituted a newer, better mail filtering system.

Basically, it scans your incoming email for spam AND viruses. It traps spam and viruses on a web page where you can check to make sure that the trapped messages aren't anything you need, and lets you view the viruses safely. Most likely, you're reading this because you just got an email about how to check your message filters on the web site.

The web site to log in uses secure authentication to check that you're you. It checks your identity NOT against some other server, but right here on the bedford.net server, the same way the bedford.net server checks your username and password whenever you pick up your email. This is to make sure that you are the only person allowed to look at your email, even though it's probably spam and viruses. It is OKAY to log into the Postini (TM) website with your email address and password to check your spam and virused email safely. You can also modify how strong you'd like your spam filters to be and the sorts of things you'd like filtered. It's pretty neat, even has a 'block this email address' feature if someone is sending you harrassing email. We'll have more information on this up in a day or so, but right now we're still working on the web pages. Hang in there. For now, here's the link to the log-in page in case you misplaced your introductory email... http://login.postini.com/exec/login

6/12/01 -- SETI@home

For those of you familiar with the SETI@home project, we've set up a group for bedford.net users to join. If you're interested in information on the project, go here to find out more.

4/25/00 -- IP Poster

I've gotten a couple of requests for information on how to find out what your IP address is when you're connected to the internet. If you need to know, we've built an IP identifier web page, which will be permanently listed in Technical Support as 'What's My IP?'

8/19/99 -- PSC Internet Fraud Unit

The Pennsylvania Securities Commission has announced a new internet fraud unit. If you are the victim of a investment scam on-line, this will be a useful place to go for help. CNN reviews the site here. You can visit the Pennsylvania Securities Commission here. If you have a consumer problem rather than an investment problem, the Office of the Attorney General of Pennsylvania has a Bureau of Consumer Protection that you can visit on-line. If you order a product on-line and are cheated, this would be a good place to go for help.
